A contract killer, carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head, was arrested for a Delhi-based businessman’s murder committed six years ago, police said on Monday.

Sharpshooter Abuzar, 28, a resident of Bulandshahar in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested Saturday from near Connaught Place in central Delhi following a tip-off.

‘Abuzar was declared proclaimed offender. He has a bounty of Rs 50,000 on his head,’ said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ravindra Yadav.

The murder was committed on 7 April, 2008, when businessman Arun Gupta, son-in-law of the owner of Mittal Farms in Mehrauli, had left for office from his Kalkaji house in south Delhi and had gone just 100 metres in his car.

Gupta had stopped as his car was stuck in a traffic jam when Abuzar and his two associates arrived
on a bike and sprayed bullets, killing him on the spot.
