Kidney racket: Senior doctors quizzed for 3 hrs

Update: 2016-07-13 23:44 GMT
The duo were summoned on last Friday and on Sunday initial interrogation was carried out. They were asked to join the probe on Tuesday again and at around 5 pm the duo doctors reached Sarita Vihar police station where they were quizzed by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for more than three hours.

If sources are to be believed, the Delhi Police have recorded the interrogation and the replies given by the duo might help the cops to slap harsher charges on them. Sources in the SIT told Millennium Post that both the doctors were unable to give justification to the questions asked on their alleged active role in the racket that was being run under their nose from last year.

“Ashok Sarin was initially questioned about the reason behind not returning to Delhi from the US as per his pre-plan. But he was unable to make the cops believe on his theory,” the source said.

It is worth mentioning that Sarin’s two secretarial staff were the first to be arrested in the kidney racket case, who were helping the touts in clearing the legal documents from the hospital’s internal committee.

Later, when Sarin was quizzed about why he had signed blank letter heads that were later misused by his secretarial staff, he could not explain the reason. Further, Dr D K Aggarwal was also quizzed about his role in the kidney racket, but he too reportedly did not reply satisfactorily. One secretarial staff of Aggarwal was also held by the police.

A senior police official heading the SIT said : “Tuesday’s interrogation was just the first round. More such rounds are likely to take place. They have been asked to join the probe on Wednesday as well. After their questioning will be completed, the internal committee of the hospital will also be quizzed.”

In the near future, the duo is likely to be quizzed along with the arrested persons including the secretarial staff, touts, recipients and donors. “Several direct and indirect questions were asked to them on Tuesday evening and their facial expressions were also recorded,” the source added.
