Khattar to be sworn in as Har CM on Sunday

Prime minister Narendra Modi’s aide and a former RSS worker Manohar Lal Khattar was on Tuesday unanimously elected leader of the BJP legislature party, paving his way for becoming the next chief minister of Haryana, the first from the BJP. 60-year-old Khattar will be the first Punjabi to hold the post. He was chosen at a meeting of 47 newly elected MLAs at the Chandigarh UT Guest House, in the presence of central observers M Venkaiah Naidu, party vice president Dinesh Sharma and party’s Haryana prabhari (incharge) Jagdish Mukhi. Later, the legislative party leaders and observers called upon the Haryana Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki and submitted their proposal to form the government in Haryana.

The oath taking ceremony will be held on 26 October at 11 am at Tau Devi Lal Stadium at Panchkula. Khattar, a first-time MLA, has worked as an RSS pracharak for over 40 years. Born in Rohtak district, he contested the assembly elections from Karnal. He won the Karnal seat with a huge margin of 63,736 votes. This is the first time that he contested an election.
