Khar and Bilawal in love, claims a section of media

Pakistan political circle is abuzz with rumours that was substantiated recently by a Bangladeshi tabloid Blitz. It seems a possible ‘love story’ is on the cards between Benazir Bhutto’s son Bilawal and Pakistan’s foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar.

The Pakistan media is mum about this and there is no official confirmation from any other source. The rumour gets some credence because it is reported that Hina’s millionaire husband Firoze Gulzar has asked for her call records. Since she is the country’s foreign minister, it is unclear what protocol will be applied to honour this request.

The tabloid has said Asif Ali Zardari apparently caught the duo in a ‘compromising’ position at his residence. It said Zardari is livid about this alleged affair and had almost ‘sacked’ Hina a few months ago for not toeing the official line over some issue. Or at least, that was the reason trotted out by the Pakistan administration.

The Internet is, however, abuzz about this alleged affair between the heir of the Pakistan People’s Party and the mother of two daughters. Some blurry photographs of the duo in a ‘compromising’ position have also surfaced. The tabloid also says the alleged affair is being discussed in Islamabad in hushed tones.

Agencies also report that Bilawal has threatened to resign from the PPP. This may have serious implications on the country’s democratic politics since Benazir’s daughters have shown no interest so far. There has also been speculation that the ‘lovers’ might settle in Switzerland.
