‘With the changing times there has been constructive change in the thinking of the Khaps,’ Dhankhar said. ‘Khaps have been playing a great role in eradication of female foeticide and other social evils,’ he added.
Dhankhar made the observation while addressing the representatives of various Khaps of the state at Haryana Bhawan in New Delhi on Thursday.
Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar was also present on the occasion. Speaking at the event, Khattar appealed to the people on the state to follow the philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (universal brotherhood) and emphasised on the need for unity in the society for over round development of the state.
He urged the people to rise above parochial difference of casteism. Khattar said that the government wanted to ensure welfare of all sections of the society. He said that we would have to promote moral education to eradicate social evils from the society. ‘We would have to launch a massive campaign to awaken the people,’ he added.
The chief minister said that while following the high ideals of Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya, the Haryana government is keen to ensure that benefits of welfare schemes reach the grass root level.
While referring to the issue of reservation to Jat community, he said that at present the issue is pending with the high court. He said that reservation should be given to only those who are weak and deserve it. Khattar also stressed the need for generating employment opportunities for the youth so as to check the socio-economic disparities. He said that to achieve this, education system would be further improved.
