The 45-year-old wife of a ground staff employee in Kingfisher Airlines committed suicide in Delhi's Palam area on Thursday. She was under depression, as her family was facing financial crunch due to non-payment of salary by the airline to her husband.

Sushmita Chakravarti, 45, a resident of DDA flats in Palam's Manglapuri area, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in the house. She lived with her husband Manas Chakravarti, who is a former Air Force employee and currently serves as a technician with Kingfisher Airlines at the Indira Gandhi International airport.

Their 16-year-old son, who found Sushmita hanging from a ceiling fan, informed the police and his father about the incident. The police have recovered a suicide note from her possession, in which she spoke about being under financial stress due to non-payment of salary to her husband by the airline company.

'She stated in the note that her husband had not got salary for the past four to five months, and she was unable to cope with the situation,' said A K Ojha, additional commissioner of police [south-west].

Her body has been sent for a post-mortem examination to the Deen Dayal Upadhaya Hospital, said the official.
