Kejriwal meets dowry victim’s family, assures assistance

Former Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal met the family of dowry victim, Neha Yadav, who had succumbed to her burn injuries on 2 July. Kejriwal reached Neha’s parental home in village Samalakha in Kapashera at around 2 pm on Friday alongwith AAP leaders Sanjay Singh and Rakhi Birla.

AAP alleged that she was being tortured by her husband and in-laws (in Indra Park, Sagarpur, West Delhi) but the police chose to turn a blind eye to her repeated complaints resulting into the gruesome incident of her being burnt by her husband and in-laws on 13 January,  but even this could not move the police.

‘Arvind met Neha’s father Birender Yadav and assured all possible help to the family in their fight for justice. Neha’s father told Kejriwal that Neha’s in-laws were forcing them to vacate the house in Indra Park, Sagarpur, West Delhi, where Neha and her two children, 10-year-old daughter Khushi and six-year-old sonRohit were staying with her. Neha’s family also told that her in-laws are also issuing threats and the police were not taking any action,’ said Nagendra Sharma, AAP spokesperson.

Arvind Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh told the family that party leader and former Delhi minister Rakhi Birla would follow up the case and would ensure stern police action against the culprits.
‘Birla later took Neha’s family to the DCP (West) Suman Goyal’s office. In their meeting with the DCP, Neha’s family complained about inaction of local police officials. The DCP assured of prompt action in the case. Rakhi Birla told DCP Suman Goyal that she would be following up with the police on the progress of the investigation,’ he added.
