Keen to promote healthcare for elderly: Wikstrom

Wikstrom, who is on a three day visit to India, said that Sweden is eager to work with India in collaboration to setup an efficient healthcare system. There is a great potential in Indian healthcare institutions to make the country a medical hub for the world. He added that he was impressed with the work done by the health ministry of India in terms of the recent developments in the field of medical services and his delegation would like to collaborate with medical institutions to develop the health services in India. Sweden is one of the world’s most medically developed nations and has been ranked 12th globally by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in terms of medical advancement.

Along with a 55 member delegation, Wikstrom is here to attend the celebrations of five years of successful cooperation in the field of healthcare and public health. The MoU was signed in the year 2009. In a press conference on Tuesdy, AIIMS director MC Misra said that areas like cancer research and trauma care research will get benefitted highly from the collaboration between India and Sweden. Though there are a lot of things to be learnt from Sweden, however, senior citizen healthcare and maternity along with child healthcare are some of the major areas that need immediate attention.
