Urging the Congress led UPA govt to withdraw the pending Bill to provide reservation in promotion to the schedule castes and schedule tribe, the independent Lok Sabha member and former CM Kalyan Singh has stated that if the Bill comes for voting in Lower House, he will vote against it.

Kalyan Singh who is waiting his formal return to the BJP soon, has issued a statement siding with those BJP leaders who have openly raised their objection on the move of the BJP to support the Bill in Rajya Sabha. It may be recalled that BJP MPs including Yogi Adityanath and Varun Gandhi had already announced that if the Billl comes up for voting in Rajya Sabha , they will vote against it defying the party whip on the issue.

The former chief minister who is independent Lok Sabha member from Etah said that those who have been benefited by the reservation on time of their induction into the government job should not be allowed to take the advantage of reservation during their promotion. ‘This is not only against the directives of the Supreme Court but also contrary to the basic spirit of the Constitution’ Singh said.

Kalyan Singh said that reservation in promotion will jeopardise the entire administrative system and discipline but also creat a gulf which will cause irreparable loss to the harmony of the society.

‘Instead of playing for the vote bank politics, the UPA Government must withdraw the Bill in larger interest of the country’ he said, vowing if the Bill comes up for voting, he will go against it.

The statement of Kalyan Singh come at a time when former Chief Minister Mayawati has written a letter to prime Minister demanding a special session to pass the quota bill.
