Apart from an IPL spot-fixing connection, Rajesh Kumar Kalra, the victim of Lajpat Nagar’s daring Rs 8 crore heist, also has D-company links. Kalra was also in touch with several IPS officials in the country.
‘Kalra’s call detail record (CDR) that was accessed a day ago revealed that he was in continuous touch with IPS officials over phone. Also, his call details show his connection with few suspected underworld members,’ a source close to the investigation said.
The source added that Kalra often made international calls to Pakistan and Dubai. The investigating teams are now trying to find out his possible D-company connection. Kalra had spoken to someone in Dubai number a day before the incident. He is being interrogated to find out the details of the conversation that lasted for 30 minutes. Frequent international calls were made Kalra during the last week.
Meanwhile, Delhi police failed to nab the robbers. Police chief BS Bassi, however, claimed that they have got several big leads in the heist and are likely to crack the case in couple of days. To track the Hawala money trial, Enforcement Directorate and the Income Tax department are likely to scan Kalra’s bank accounts that have allegedly been opened with different names.
The Special Cell has been asked to share the CDRs of all accused who were arrested during IPL spot-fixing investigation. Also, few phone numbers of the suspected bookies have been put on surveillance.
Bookies Chandresh Jain alias Jupiter and Ramesh Vyas, who are out on bail, might be called to join the current investigation to establish the hawala money trail. ‘After being released on bail, Kalra had again indulged in match-fixing, similarly there is a possibility that other key bookies who are out on bail are still active in the betting world,’ the source added.
So far Delhi police have not given a clean chit to Kalra because of his continuously changing versions on the robbed amount. The source said that Kalra’s interrogation has hinted at the fact that the robbers were well known to him and personal enmity is the motive behind the crime.
‘Kalra’s tainted past is holding him back from revealing more information as he fears getting caught and booked again,’ the official said.
