The Chief Minister will reach North Bengal on Tuesday where she will attend several programmes. She will attend the meeting of Tamang Development and Cultural Board (TDCB) on Wednesday. The Chief Minister may join the meeting with the Lepchas as well.

According to the district administration, Mamata Banerjee will give away cycles to school students in Siliguri on Tuesday. Then she will proceed to Kalimpong and attend an event to declare it as a separate district on Wednesday. She will also meet the Tamangs at Graham Home. The meeting with Tamang Development and Cultural Board is considered to be an important one.

TDCB has been constituted to protect, promote and safeguard the language, tradition and culture of the Tamang Community in West Bengal. It started functioning on September 9, 2014, with its headquarters in Kalimpong.

The main aim of TDCB is to undertake the development of Tamang tribes by promotional activities related to tourism, handicraft, folk art, folklore, traditional games and sports among the youth and also to arrange functions, lectures, debates, discussions, seminars and exposure programmes of any kind for the objectives.

“We are ready to welcome Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. She will distribute cycles to 1,000 students. But our aim is higher. Around 10,000 students will get cycles from Siliguri, Naxalbari and Fanshideoya area before Durga Puja,” said Darjeeling District Magistrate, Anurag Shrivastav.

The Chief Minister may also visit Souriya. She could also visit North Bengal Wild Animal (Bengal Safari) Park. The state forest department, however, has made special arrangements for her visit. Two elephants will be brought from Jaldapara to this park.

In the park, the North Bengal flood plains harbour wild animals like tigers, common leopard, clouded leopard, elephants, rhinos, Himalayan black bear, sloth bears, gaur, sambar, barking deer, spotted deer, hog deer, wild boar, rhesus monkey, common langur, different types of small cats and civets, crocodile, gharials, jungle fowls and a large number of terrestrial and water birds. The Chief Minister will inspect the park and take a stock of its administration as well.
