Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) officials are hopeful that all the broken roads and washed away bridges will be restored before the holy journey resumes for the Lord Shiva’s devotees.
Earlier, the KMVN (a nodal agency for the ministry of external affairs to organize this pilgrimage) was pondering over to working on alternative route (Tawaghat-Sirkha-Gala route) as suggested by PWD and ITBP. But later, it was discovered that these regions are not suitable from the safety and security of pilgrims/tourists. Now, it has been decided that the journey will not divert from its traditional paths. The journey is arduous and demand lot of stamina, but still it is not enough to discourage pilgrims to step-out to the higher altitudes up to 19,500 feet in search of real peace and salvation.
Last year, this journey was started on 12 June, and only one batch consisted of 53 pilgrims could reach the Mount Kailash, the abode of Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati. The second batch remained stranded at Almora for three days due to inclement weather, and then returned to Kathgodam in the month of June.
