Kabbadi player dies after accident in Hauz Khas

The accident occurred while she was crossing road in Hauz Khas area of south Delhi. Interestingly, the accused has surrendered before police but claimed to be innocent.

The incident took place on Monday at around 12.30 pm while she was returning home from Kamla Nehru College, from where she was pursuing BA course. While crossing the road, she was crushed to death by an over speeding silver-coloured Volkswagon Polo car, driven by a woman.

Pankaj Dheer (57), an eyewitness, who also reported the matter to police, said that he saw a speeding car hitting a pedestrian from behind. ‘The woman driver did not even bother to stop her car after hitting the victim. She dragged her to few meters and managed to escape,’ Dheer told police.

Dheer, a resident of Kalkaji immediately noted down the registration number of the car and informed police about the accident. A police team immediately rushed Deepti to the AIIMS Trauma Centre where she was declared dead on arrival. She sustained severe head injuries, which resulted in her death, doctors at

AIIMS said. On the same day, the accused surrendered before police but alleged that she is not involved in the accident. She has been identified as Nalini (50). During investigation, her car was also found damaged.

‘She has been booked under the relevant sections of IPC including hit and run case and Motor Vehicle Act. We are investigating the case from all angles and the accused is being intensively quizzed,’ a senior police official said. Deepti had won 40 medals and certificates in kabbadi. She was living with her family in Mehrauli area of south Delhi. Her father is a principal in Saraswati Bal Mandir school.
