The QS World University Rankings Sustainability 2025 have been released, with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi emerging as the highest-ranked Indian institution. Globally, IIT Delhi holds the 171st position and boasts an impressive 81.1 percentile in the Environmental Sustainability category.
Marking a significant leap, IIT Delhi climbed 255 places from its 426th global ranking last year. It is followed by IIT Kharagpur, ranked 202nd globally, and IIT Bombay at 234th. Among the 78 Indian universities featured in this year’s rankings, nine of the top ten institutions improved their global standings. Notably, the list includes 21 new entrants. Other prominent Indian institutions on the list include IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, the University of Delhi, Indian Institute of Science, Vellore Institute of Technology, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, and Anna University. “This is an excellent achievement for the Indian higher education ecosystem and shows that Indian universities are forging ahead with their sustainability initiatives,” said Ben Sowter, Vice President of London-based Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).
