After last week’s communal tension in east Delhi’s Trilokpuri area, Bawana in outer Delhi is now tense over oppositions raised to organize Muharram procession.
Provoking posters were put up in the locality urging people to assimilate to Bawana for a Muzaffarnagar kind of Mahapanchayat on Sunday to oppose the Muharram procession.
According to reports, more than 1,000 locals from different villages of Bawana area organised the Mahapanchayat opposing the taking out of Muharram processions through its traditional routes.
A group of around 200 motorcycle-born youth, under police protection, were patrolling the area since early October. The group had been demanding an end to alleged cow slaughter on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha. They had even searched premises belonging to minority communities on the pretext of preventing cow slaughter.
The campaign on Sunday lost steam after intervention of activists and massive deployment of security forces by the administration.
The posters add that provocations in the name of Taziya, open exhibit of arms and processions, should be opposed. A month ago, on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha too posters were put up by a certain community in Bawana urging the youth to take oath to prevent cow slaughter.
Large number of deployment of force then had thwarted any attempt at disturbing the peace in the locality. Locals have asked Delhi Police to increase the security and deploy para-military forces in the region to avoid any outburst.
