Delhi Lieutenant governor Najeeb Jung on Tuesday reviewed the measures taken to ensure the safety and security of women in the national capital in a meeting with women NGO groups.

The meeting was attended by leading NGOs and women’s right groups which included Delhi School of Social Work, Jagori, Pratidhi,  Sarojini Naidu Centre for Women’s Studies and Justice Sunanda Bhandare Foundation.  Also present at the meeting were officers of Delhi police. The women’s rights group lauded the various measures undertaken by the Delhi police in the wake of the 16 December gang rape. The NGOs highlighted that the problem of sexual harassment in public transport still exists and that there is need to take effective measures to control the incidents of sexual harassment in public buses.

Jung said even minor incidents must be registered and the offenders must be brought to book by applying stringent sections of the law.
