Jung spying for PMO: AAP

Update: 2016-06-08 01:07 GMT
“The LG of Delhi spying on the elected ministers of the NCT of Delhi is an extremely serious matter. The AAP’s stand is based on the contents of the letter written by the Delhi LG to the Prime Minister’s Office recently, contents of which have now been reported in the media,” said the AAP in a press statement.

Since the letter has been addressed to the Prime Minister’s Office, it is clear that the Delhi LG Najeeb Jung is illegally interfering under directions from the central government. In his letter to the PMO, the LG has written about the presence of an official from the Indian Railways in the office of the Delhi Home Minister Satyendar Jain on December 29, 2015.

“This letter raises extremely serious questions about the kind of activities the Delhi LG appears to be indulging in. On what basis has the LG dragged the name of the Home Minister, Mr Satyendar Jain? What is the source of his information and why is he concerned about who visits the ministers? The act of spying by someone as prominent as the LG on the ministers of the Delhi government is a serious assault on federalism and undermines the basic functioning of the elected government,” the statement added.

AAP asked the Central government and LG to answer the following questions — What is the LG’s source of information about the presence of any individual in the office of a minister of Delhi government? What was the reason for the LG to write to the PMO about who visits the ministers of Delhi government? Under whose direction is the LG seeking information about the visitors to ministers of the Delhi government? Why is the LG interested in knowing about the work being done in the offices of ministers? Have such instructions been given to all Governors/LGs across India by the PMO or are such obstructionist tactics reserved merely for Delhi?
