Jung faces BJP heat over Delhi’s power, water woes

Faced with criticism over delay in resolving power and water problems in the national capital, for the first time a senior BJP leader has demanded replacement of Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung. Ramesh Bidhuri, who represents South Delhi constituency in Lok Sabha, on Tuesday said Jung’s removal should be considered as he has not been able to face the challenges on the two fronts.
Bidhuri’s demand carries lot of value as he is general secretary of the party’s Delhi unit and is seen as an important cog in the party’s state machinery. Severely critical of Jung, Bidhuri conceded that water and power crises have made life miserable for people in the sweltering heat and Jung must take all possible action to address the problem.

‘His removal should be considered if the situation does not improve in the next few days,’ said Bidhuri. Delhi has been facing water and power crises since a devastating storm severely damaged the power transmission network on 30 May. The outages have affected operations at a number of water treatment plants, resulting in scarcity of water in several areas.

‘We want concrete results as we had promised to the people that we will resolve their problems. The power and water crises must be resolved at the earliest. Otherwise, stern action should be considered,’ Bidhuri, who was elected as an MLA from Tuglakabad constituency for three consecutive terms since 2003, said.
