Joining BJP is ‘Ghar Wapsi’ for me: MS Dhir

Update: 2015-01-26 22:15 GMT
MS Dhir left AAP in November 2014 to join the BJP and was the Speaker in Delhi Assembly between December 2013 and February 2014. Excerpts:

Last election you fought on an AAP ticket and won. Then you switched to the BJP in November 2014. How do you see your chances in this election?

I am sure BJP will win this time. The party has very good chances in Jangpura constituency. It is true that in the last election I had fought on an AAP ticket but after that I joined the BJP. This has been a ‘Ghar Wapsi’ for me. The BJP has been my primary and original party and I have come back to it now.

Do you think the voters in Jangpura is unhappy with your decision and will it have any impact your poll prospect?
No, I do not think so. It is not that I switched parties. Let me reiterate that this has been ‘Ghar Wapsi’ for me.

What is your vision for the Jangpura constituency? How is the response from the people towards you in the area?
I have worked a lot for the people in this constituency earlier and the people trust me. This time also I am confident they would elect me as their leader. The response from the people in Jangpura for me has been very positive. I am confident that the BJP will win here for sure.

Will the induction and nomination of Kiran Bedi as BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate help the party in this election?
Definitely. Kiran Bediji’s candidature has provided a big boost to the party. She has a very honest and clean image. She was the first IPS lady officer and had given Delhi a very good administration.

Does the ‘Modi wave’ or magic still remain and will that too affect the voters’ sentiment in Delhi?
There is no doubt that there will be a lot of votes given on Modiji’s name as well. This is because all his policy decisions are based on the philosophy of development for all. This fact is reflected in the work he has been doing for the nation as the country’s Prime Minister. In every sector, development is taking place and inflation has come down. In Delhi, electricity bills would be reduced by half. The issue of unauthorised colonies would be addressed if the BJP government is voted to power.

The slum dwellers would be given proper housing facilities. Great work is being done by Modiji and he has become globally popular for the work he is doing as India’s Prime Minister. In fact leaders from across the globe are inspired by his style of working.
