The Jawaharlal Nehru Students Union (JNUSU) has slammed Vice Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar for installation of gates at the sit-in site near the administration block. The sit-in area near the administration block is a vacant space that is used by the students for conducting protests and hunger strikes.
From last week of November, the area has witnessed a lot of activities as some JNUSU students are having an indefinite sit-in there. The students are demanding justice for Najeeb Ahmed, the first year MSc Biotech student who has been missing from the JNU campus for last 59 days.
According to JNUSU, this is a move by the Vice Chancellor aimed at stopping students’ protest at the administration block. JNUSU President Mohit Pandey reacted strongly on the decision of the administration to install gates at the sit-in site.
Pandey said, “We have been asking tough questions from the JNU administration over the issue of Najeeb Ahmed.
We have asked them why they have been so insensitive on the issue of Najeeb Ahmed and why the administration has given only a mild punishment to ABVP students who physically assaulted him on October 14. To prevent us from holding the JNU administration and VC accountable, there has been a decision to create a blockade at the sit-in area.”
Pandey further said, “The VC has used the students to prevent us from protesting and fighting for Najeeb. We have been given notices and warned. However, we will continue our struggle for justice for Najeeb and his family.”
