The Jawaharlal Nehru University’s (JNU) Vice-Chancellor, Jagadesh Kumar, has alleged that he was jostled by the a group of teachers and the students during the Academic Council (AC) meeting in the University on Tuesday.
“Soon after the ruckus, Professor Kumar walked out of the meeting. Allegedly the meeting was not allowed to proceed by a group of teachers and students. Also the AC members, particularly a group of teachers and students, started shouting slogans and disrupted the meeting,” press statement of the JNU V-C reads.
“When the Vice-Chancellor proceeded toward his office from the venue, some students attempted to surround him by forming a human chain and prevented him from moving forward. Some students literally pulled his shirt and tried to pin him down, when the V-C, with the help of security staff, managed to reach his office,” the statement mentioned.
However, JNU Teachers Association members denied the charges of manhandling and said: “The allegation made by the V-C is not correct.” Also, the JNU students body vice-president Shehla Rashid, said: “The V-C has levelled a false allegation against the students. The students were called for the meeting and not allowed to enter inside the hall.”
