Days after a PhD student of JNU alleged that she was raped by Anmol Ratan, an activist of the AISA, Ratan surrendered before the police on Wednesday evening, police said. Police teams were conducting raids to nab him but on Wednesday, Anmol reached Vasant Kunj (North) police station and surrendered himself. Few minutes later, he was arrested by the police under the charges of rape.
The incident was reported to police on Sunday when the woman, who is a final year student of PhD, alleged that one Anmol Ratan raped her at his hostel room.
She had alleged that in the month of June 2016, she had put a statement on Facebook that she wanted to watch a film called Sairat and asked if anyone had a copy. She alleged that Anmol messaged her that he had a copy of the film. She further added that on Saturday, Anmol picked her up from her hostel to give her the film and took her to his hostel —
Brahamputra — where he offered her some drinks, allegedly laced with sedatives and after that committed sexual assaults on her. Initially, he did not allow her to go and threatened her of dire consequences but somehow she managed to escape. A case has been registered against Anmol under the Sections 376 and 506 of the IPC at Vasant Kunj (North) police station.
