In yet another case of murder by a jilted lover, an IAS aspirant in Ghaziabad shot dead his lover, and then himself, when her parents objected to their marriage. The deceased woman is sister of a sub-inspector in Delhi police.
According to police, Praveen, 22, came to the house of Balvir in his village, Mata Colony, and locked his daughter Manju, 22, in a room around 2 pm on Wednesday. Manju was alone in the house.
He then shot her dead with a country-made pistol and then committed suicide. On hearing the gun shot, neighbours broke open the door to find the duo lying in a pool of blood.
‘He was in love with the girl and we had approached her parents, but they refused. But we had never expected such a reaction from him,’ said Rakesh, Praveen’s uncle, with whom he was residing.
Praveen lived in Meerut and was enrolled in a coaching institute for preparation of civil services. He had done BBA and Manju was a previous year student of BLib, M M Degree College, in Modi Nagar. Police recovered one live cartridge from the place.
Earlier, on 3 September, another jilted lover, Ravi, had killed the girl he wanted to marry and her father in Bhojpur of Ghaziabad, before shooting himself.
‘We have registered a case and investigating the matter. It seems he murdered the girl as her parents had objected to the marriage,’ said Jagdish Sharma, SP (Rural), Ghaziabad.
