The incident took place at the residence of the son-in-law of Jet Airways vice-president (security), in South Delhi’s Anand Lok colony on late Sunday night. Tanmay Seth, son-in-law of Jet Airways vice-president (security) Avneet Singh, came back from a wedding in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday that he and his wife had gone to attend.

At the time of the incident, two maids and a servant employed by the family were present in the bungalow and were reportedly sleeping in the servant’s quarter when the theft took place. When Seth went to the first floor of the bungalow, he found the almirah broken open. On conducting searches, it was found that the diamond jewellery kept in the almirah was missing. Further, a cash of Rs 60,000 was also missing.

Seth immediately called the Police Control Room at around 4 am and a team reached the spot. After learning that the burglary was of the amount more than Rs 3 crore, senior officials of South district also reached the spot. Seth runs a business in agricultural products in Tamil Nadu.

“During investigation, it was learnt that the main door of the bungalow and a window of the first floor was not bolted from inside and the thieves had an easy entry. They stole valuables and had an easy escape. The bungalow had no security arrangements like CCTV cameras, security guards on the gate,” Nupur Prasad, Additional DCP-I (South) said.

She further added that five teams have been formed to investigate the matter, out of which two were looking into the CCTV footage of the nearby areas. Meanwhile, a tight vigil was being kept on the movement of the burglars in the area. Forensic team has collected fingerprints from the crime scene.

“The two maids and the servant are also being quizzed. However, the couple are giving clean-chits to them,” another officer added. A case has been registered at the Defence Colony police station.
