Jeweller shot dead in E Delhi over property dispute, wife blames brother

A 32-year-old jeweller was shot dead by two unidentified persons at his residence in east Delhi’s Shakarpur area on Monday morning. 

The family suspect the involvement of his younger brothers and told police that a property dispute led to his murder. However, the accused are yet to be identified.

According to the police, at around 9 am, two persons reached the residence of Rajesh Thakur, who lives with his wife, Ekta Rawat (30) and two sons, Shaurya (5) and Lakshya (1). The accused knocked the door and posed themselves as tenants to Rajesh, wishing to rent third floor of his house.
‘When Rajesh opened the door, the accused shot him three times and fled the spot. Hearing gun shot, Rajesh’s wife came out and found him lying in a pool of blood near the main gate of their house,’ an investigating  officer said. He was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. In the meantime, a police team reached the hospital whereas another team landed at the crime spot. Doctors told police that Rajesh received two gun shot injuries in his heart and the third on his head. Police have found a mobile phone, probably belonging to one of the accused, from the crime scene. It has been sent for the forensic examination. 

According to police, the accused persons were spotted in three CCTV cameras installed in the locality. 

‘But they were wearing helmets. But we are investigating the case from all plausible angles to establish their identities. A manhnt has been launched to nab them,’ the official said.

In a statement to police, Rajesh’s wife claimed that his younger brothers — Ramesh and Rakesh are responsible for his murder. She further told police that the brothers were involved in a long pending property dispute due to which they often had minor scuffles.
