Jeweller killed in Gr Noida, protests rage demanding arrest of accused

In a broad daylight incident, a jeweller from Greater Noida was killed by some unidentified assailants on Thursday. Police said that the one, Varun Verma, was gunned down when he was on his way to the jewellery shop located in Dadri town. The trader’s killing witnessed protests and shutting down of markets in the area demanding immediate arrest of the accused criminals.

The incident took place at around 8 am when Verma (23) was on his way from house. Two persons came on a bike and shot him multiple times. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Police said that one of the attackers has been identified as Suraj, a local resident who was having a rivalry with the deceased. According to witnesses, Suraj came with one accomplice on a bike and pumped four bullets into Varun before fleeing from the spot. Varun collapsed and died. The police said Varun worked as a jeweller at the main market of Dadri and he was having an old rivalry with Suraj over some monetary issue. Body of the deceased was sent for post-mortem, reports of which are awaited. A number of family members of the deceased gathered at the police station demanding arrest of the culprit. The jewellers’ association has condemned the killing and decided to meet the SSP demanding justice. “We have sought footage of all CCTV cameras installed at the locality to find out the escape route of the suspects. Neighboring police stations were alerted about the suspects and barricades were put at bordering areas,” said a cop.
