Severe traffic congestion was reported from major roads in south and south-east Delhi on Saturday evening.

The congestions were witnessed largely on the Ring Road stretch from the Sarai Kale Khan ISBT to AIIMS and from the Ashram Chowk to the entire stretch till Nehru Place.

‘I had to travel from Moti Bagh to Lajpat Nagar and I was stuck for around half-an-hour thrice – once between AIIMS and South Extension, again at Moolchand and finally at Lajpat Nagar, it took me a long while to take the turn towards Lajpat Nagar I,’ said Manoj, a businessman from Lajpat Nagar. ‘I was expecting the roads to be clear on Saturday that too between 3 pm and 5 pm,’ he added.

Another commuter, Rakesh Ranjan, moving towards Nehru place said that he was stuck for an hour at the stretch between Modi Mill and Kalkaji, consisting of two flyovers.

According to the Delhi Traffic Police, severe jams were also reported from areas around the Siri Fort and IIT at Hauz Khas. ‘But the reason behind congestion at Siri Fort and IIT haven’t been reported to the traffic helpline centre yet,’ said a traffic official.

Apart from south Delhi, traffic congestions on Saturday evening were also reported from the Azad Market area near Filmistaan in north Delhi and the entire stretch adjacent to the Gazipur-Kondli Nahar in east Delhi.
