In a shocking incident, an 18-year-old youth, who studied at Jamia Millia Islamia University, committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his residence in East Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar area on Sunday night. No suicide note was recovered from the room.
The incident came to light on Monday morning when his mother went to his room to serve breakfast and found him hanging from the ceiling fan at their D-block residence.
The victim has been identified as Bharat Nagpal, who was a B.Sc second year student in Jamia Millia Islamia University. He was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital by his father where he was declared brought dead.
‘We have not recovered any suicide note from the spot. It seems that the youth was under depression over something.
‘We are questioning his family and friends to ascertain the reason why he took the extreme step.
‘It could also be a love affair gone wrong,’ said a police official. Sources informed that he was under depression from past few days.
Mobile records of the deceased is being analysed, the official said.
