Jamia Millia to translate Tagore’s works in Urdu

The Ministry of Culture, Government of India, has granted Rs 96 lakh to Jamia Millia Islamia, University to translate the works of Rabindra nath Tagore in Urdu.

Simi Malhotra, media Coordinator of the university, said, ‘The department of Urdu will be translating and publishing 10 books on Tagore’s important writings as well as writings on Tagore for Urdu readers.’

According to Malhotra, it has been decided in the research committee meeting of Tagore Research and Translation Scheme to translate Tagore’s selected poems, fiction, essays, articles, plays, important letters, interviews and travelogues.

Shamim Hanfi, Urdu teacher of Jamia, said, ‘There was a time when Tagorism was a literary jargon, and it has had a great impact on Urdu prose writers and it would be great testimony for the Urdu department of Jamia.’
