‘Islanding will help Delhi’

Parliamentary secretary to chief minister and spokesperson of Congress Legislative Party Mukesh Sharma on Thursday stated that CM Sheila Dikshit has succeeded in getting islanding facility for Delhi within shortest possible time, making Delhi a step closer in becoming a world class city.

Sharma stated that this would prove to be beneficial to Delhiites. And hence, the major political party, the Bharatiya Janata Party must welcome this forward looking decision jointly taken by the Delhi government and union power ministry.

Sharma further stated that  Dikshit took keen interest in getting the scheme of islanding cleared from the union government. Since Delhi is home to all union government and Delhi government offices, embassies, and agencies responsible for the supply of essential services, it was essential to have such facility that is already in place in Mumbai and Kolkata. Sharma added that the facility being provided in Delhi is much better than the facilities available in the other two metros.

Sharma, along with another Congress MLA Narender Nath, submitted a petition in DERC describing the plight of electricity consumers over the new rates and new slabs implemented with effect from 1 July 2012.  Both MLAs have requested DERC to take immediate action on their petition in order to provide relief to consumers.
