Soccer team Atletico de Kolkata’s co-owners on Sunday said the Indian Super League would produce international quality footballers from India in the next few years.

‘Through ISL we would be able to build football at the grassroot level. We will build international quality footballers in the next few years,’ team’s co-owner Harsh Neotia told reporters here.

Former India cricket team skipper Sourav Ganguly, who is also one of the owners of the team, says they do not know about the financial prospect of their venture but their main aim is to get good quality football.

‘We want good football and we want to improve India’s standard of football. It is not being run by money. It is being run by heart,’ Ganguly said.

After a month-long training in a high-altitude province in Spain, AdK players have now returned to the city ahead of the ISL scheduled from October 12 to December 20.

Luis Garcia, the team’s marquee player, said the people here wanted to see heroes from India emerging from the tournament.
