Speaking to Millennium Post, a police official close to investigation said, ‘The line of investigation is moving towards the nexus and personal enmity between Kalra with other bookies including Chandresh Jain alias Jupiter (key handler in IPL spot-fixing case), Ramesh Vyas and other big match-fixers in IPL spot-fixing scandal. Also, several other bookies who are at large or have been arrested and later released on bail will be interrogated.’

Kalra was arrested in April 2000 and released within two months. He then got into property business in Delhi. During the interrogation, it has been revealed that Kalra was still active in betting. He was in touch with other bookies, including some fixers, who were caught in IPL spot-fixing scandal. In 2000, when Kalra was arrested while he was with Vindu Dara Singh, also arrested in IPL scandal, in a luxurious Jaguar car.

‘The investigating teams have taken the help of Delhi police special cell to extract the history of recently arrested bookies who are on bail in connection with IPL spot-fixing case. CDRs of Kalra and his Gurgaon-based business partner Rahul Ahuja are being investigated to establish their links with the bookies,’ the source said.

So far around 100 people have been questioned in connection with Tuesday’s robbery and more than 30 suspected criminals from Haryana, Bahadurgarh and Jhajjar have been detained for questioning. Police is questioning Kalra along with the four other occupants in the car. Interestingly, Kalra has not been able to reveal the amount that was robbed.

‘He and his associates, including Rakesh Sharma (Ahuja’s manager) are continuously changing their version about the robbed amount. It has been established that the robbed amount was hawala money that was brought from Chandni Chowk few days before the incident,’ source added.

Sources said, ‘Kalra has match-fixing web covered Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore. He was a key gambler in Hansie Cronje case and during those days the other bookies had deposited their hawala money with him. After his release, other bookies had been trying to take revenge since Kalra’s release.’
