Seeking to foray into fine dining restaurant business at swanky hotels across the country, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is all set to open a speciality restaurant in the ITDC-run Hotel Janpath in the national Capital.

“IRCTC is in the final phase of negotiations with ITDC to get some space at Hotel Janpath,” Sandip Dutta, Manager, PR, IRCTC said. The official said IRCTC plans to develop and operate <g data-gr-id="19">the space</g> by launching an IRCTC-branded specialty restaurant with bar and banquet facilities.

IRCTC intends to showcase its venture at Hotel Janpath as its flagship property of this business, he pointed out. In addition, it plans to engage an established consultant for setting up this flagship property and building its brand and image. Once the restaurant becomes functional, it will create a niche in the ‘Fine Dining Restaurant’ segment, thereby expanding the horizons of IRCTC’s overall catering business. “IRCTC plans to strengthen this vertical with the presence of its brand across the country,” he said.

The 1996-found IRCTC, a ‘mini Ratna’ PSU of Indian Railways for e-ticketing, has entered into food catering and tourism promotion in a big way. Besides providing meals in some premium trains like Rajdhani and <g data-gr-id="18">Duranto</g>, it also caters to its corporate clients like Samsung, Nokia, HCL and Oxford University Press through its base kitchens in Delhi and Noida.
