The Delhi Police on Sunday claimed to have busted an interstate gang of drug peddlers with the arrest of its two members and seized 80 kg of marijuana worth Rs 15 lakh in the international market from their possession.
According to the police, the arrested have been identified as Daya Shankar Rai (42) and Anuj Kumar Upadhyay (30), residents of Chappra district in Bihar and Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, respectively.
The accused used to procure marijuana from Odisha and supply it in Delhi and NCR. On July 5, the police had received a tip-off that both Rai and Upadhyay would pass through Pragati Maidan with the drug consignment, police said.
“Acting on a tip-off, a trap was laid and the duo was arrested. About 80 kg of marijuana worth Rs 15 lakh in the international market was recovered from their possession,” said a senior police official investigating the case.
Initially, Rai used to supply ganja (a drug) in small quantities, but for the past one year, he used to procure it from Odisha in bulk, carried it in truck or car and supplied it in Delhi and NCR areas.
