India under rain spell, more in days ahead

The weathermen have predicted more rainfall in the next three days in the entire western and northern parts of India, including the national capital. According the meteorological department, over 52 per cent area of the country has received rainfall in excess and about 34 per cent has received normal showers in this monsoon.

‘Delhi has received 29 per cent above the average rainfall by 8.30 am on Friday,’ said a senior officer of Regional Meteorological Department. ‘The heavy rain on Friday evening, which is likely to be continued for next three days, could increase the figure of excess rainfall in the city,’ he added. Delhi has so far received 539.8 mm of rainfall against an average of 418 mm. ‘The city received 36.8 mm of rain in 12 hours ending at 8.30 pm on Friday,’ informed the official. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected on Saturday and maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 29 and 25 degrees Celsius respectively.

‘The entire Northwestern India has received an excess rainfall of 27 per cent till 15 August and heavy to very heavy rain would occur in the first half of the next week,’ said an officer at Indian Meteorological Centre (IMC). He further predicted light rain thereafter.  The officials have also predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in the western Himalayan region, UP, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan on Sunday and Monday. According to IMC, the cumulative rainfall was in excess in all the four regional zones, except east and northeast India, where it was 32 per cent below the average.
