India Post to release stamps on famous personalities

The government has decided to release a series of postal stamps on famous singers, writers, freedom fighters, painters and dancers of India. The philatelic advisory committee, which met under the chairmanship of Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, has decided to release the stamps. 

The government has also decided that ceremonial stamps issued so far may also be made available at all post offices for the public. The committee also decided that stamps with picture postcards may be released on tourist places in India such as Taj Mahal, Ajanta and Ellora, Belur Math, Khajuraho, etc.

Commemorative postage stamp on ‘Swachh Bharat’ was released the by Department of Posts, on January 30, 2015, the design was decided through open competition. The department will also release a commemorative postage stamp on Women Empowerment on August 15, whose design has been decided by <g data-gr-id="18">crowd sourcing</g>. The Ministry said <g data-gr-id="19">mobile</g> app should be developed so that people can have information about philatelic stamps.
