The Indian team on Thursday became the owner of an ignominous statistic with six of their batsmen getting out without scoring, thereby equalling the record number of six ducks in a single Test inning by an international team.
India now jointly hold the record with with South Africa and Bangladesh. On Thursday, Murali Vijay, Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Pankaj Singh all went back without troubling the scorers while Gautam Gambhir (4) and Varun Aaron (1 no) didn’t reach double figures. Only three batsmen, skipper MS Dhoni (71), Ajinkya Rahane (24) and Ravichandran Ashwin (40) had respectable scores against their names.
The last time that India had five batsmen out for duck was during the 1952 series at Headingley, when England won by seven wickets inside four days. Pankaj Roy, Dattaji Rao Gaekwad, Madhav Mantri, Vijay Manjrekar and Gulab Ramchand were out for duck in the second innings of that Test.
