India becomes first country to ratify Marrakesh treaty

With the Ratification of Marrakesh treaty, the Narendra Modi-led NDA government has got another shot in the arm as India has become the first country to ratify the Marrakesh Treaty to facilitate access to published works for persons who are blind, visually impaired, or otherwise print disabled.

So far, 79 WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organisation) member states have signed this treaty. The Marrakesh treaty will come into force once 20 countries ratify this treaty. The Marrakesh Treaty was a treaty signed in Marrakesh, Morocco, on 28 June 2013.
