On Holi-eve, Delhi police conducted drive against illicit liquor where 54 cartons of illegal country made liquor ‘Raseela Santra’ (for Sale in Haryana Only) and 35 Cartons of ‘Besto Whisky’ (for sale in Arunachal Pradesh only) recovered-from Champion vehicle.
Crime branch has apprehended two suppliers of illicit liquor Satish, 38, and Sanjay, 28. ‘Eighty nine cartons of country made liquor and one vehicle which was used for supplying illicit liquor have been recovered from their possession,’ said a police official.
With Holi round the corner, crime branch is on constant vigil and surveying bootleggers and suppliers of illicit liquor with history sheets. During this period the bootleggers are known to actively supply liquor to the Jhuggi cluster colonies after procuring the same on cheaper rates from the adjoining states.
‘On 24 March, information was received that the notorious bootlegger Satish, who is involved in supply of illicit liquor in Alipur and adjoining areas, would pass through GT Karnal Road in Delhi with huge quantity of illicit liquor in a vehicle,’ said a police officer.
The raiding team was deployed around Light Point, Palla Road, GT Karnal Road, and at 6.20 am, the vehicle was intercepted by the police. The bootleggers were held when they tried to flee.
‘During investigation, it was revealed that on the direction of their clients, they used to procure illicit liquor from Haryana and used to deliver it at the given destination in Delhi,’ said a police official.
The supply of the illicit liquor procured from other states causes the government a loss of nearly 200 per cent on the manufacturing cost of liquor, which include sales tax and excise duties.
