IB official’s house burgled in posh Lodi Colony

Update: 2012-09-14 23:56 GMT
The house of an Information and Broadcasting (I&B) ministry official located at Lodi Colony in south Delhi was ransacked on Thursday. The burglars fled with jewellery worth Rs 4 lakh, police said.

The incident was reported around 5 pm, when a neighbour of the victim, Pradeep Joshi, 56, noticed someone had broken into the house.

‘Joshi had left his residence for work around 9 am and his wife, Rukmini, had left the house to participate in a function around 2 pm,’ said a police officer.

According to the police, Joshi’s wife had left the keys with some relatives who stay in the same colony. Around 5 pm, the couple’s neighbours informed them that their main door was ajar.

‘The couple rushed home to find their house ransacked and informed the local police. A crime team surveyed the spot with the local police. Several articles – mostly gold jewellery and ornaments- were found missing, in addition to some cash,’ the officer said.

‘The incident seems to have been executed by professionals and the involvement of an insider can’t be ruled out. We are questioning the security guards employed in the colony and a case of burglary has been registered,’ the officer added.
