Hurriyat leaders’ role in J&K unrest should be examined: All-party team

The delegation will be submitting its report to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday morning in Parliament. The HM will be conducting a meeting with them, where they have asked the centre to “examine” the link between the unrest in Kashmir valley and the role of separatist leaders behind the veil, one of the MPs informed Millennium Post.

Political observers and leaders have alleged Hurriyat (separatist) leaders for provoking people of the valley to provide disinformation against India and misleading the representatives of world media covering Kashmir and the foreign envoys who frequently descend on Srinagar, as they have been seen, to raise anti-Indian slogans in public congregations.

It is also considered that this organisation is not at all a product of the Kashmiris’ aspirations or of their struggle at different stages for keeping their identity intact.

CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, JD(U)’s Sharad Yadav, D Raja of the CPI and Jaiprakash Narayan Yadav of the RJD from the delegation tried to meet and speak to separatist leaders over the violence-hit Valley, where 73 people have died in clashes between security forces and protesters since the killing of a militant in July, but received a cold response.

Former moderate Hurriyat conference chief, Abdul Ghani Bhat, welcomed the all-party delegation members and told them a decision has been taken to boycott them. Bhat called the visit a “futile exercise”, saying nothing concrete would happen unless India talks to Pakistan.

On the response by Hurriyat leaders, the all-party delegation feels that the Government of India should develop a relationship with these leaders. And without blaming them the PDP-BJP led state government should come up with more precautions to avoid the unrest in the valley of Kashmir and focus on the “development” of the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, the all-party delegation also appreciated the government’s response on withdrawing the usage of Pellet guns which they recommended as they also feel that the condition in the valley is still vulnerable.

In 2010, the all-party delegation met all the Hurriyat leaders including Geelani which helped to defuse the prevailing tension in the valley arising out of clashes between stone-pelters and the security forces. This time, the delegation will be assessing the situation in Kashmir to chalk out a future strategy.

On Tuesday morning Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh also briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the situation of Kashmir after the two-day visit of an all-party delegation to Jammu and Kashmir and expressed his displeasure over the rebuking behaviour of the Hurriyat leaders towards all-party MPs.
