TRADE FAIR TO ADD TO CHAOS

The ongoing 32nd edition of the annual India International Trade Fair (IITF) at Pragati Maidan will throw open the fair to public at large on Monday.

Consumers could visit the trade fair until 27 November. There will be no entry for trade fair after 4 pm on weekends and after 6 pm on weekdays. Tickets will be sold up to 2 pm on weekends and up to 4 pm on weekdays.

Heavy traffic congestion is expected to take place.

To avoid the congestion the traffic police will not be allowing any vehicles to halt or park at Mathura Road, Bhairon Marg, Sher Shah and Purana Qila Road. Vehicles that are not parked in the designated parking lots will be towed away with an extra fine of Rs 600 towards improper parking and disobedience of lawful instructions apart from towing charges.

‘The U-turn on Mathura Road will be prohibited. Right turn from Mathura Road to Purana Qila road and Bhagwan Das Road will not be allowed,’  said a senior traffic official.

‘People can visit the trade fair by taking Delhi Metro till Pragati Maidan Metro station. Tickets for the trade fair will also be available at any Metro station in Delhi or NCR,’ a police official said.

Delhi Transport Corporation will run trade fair special buses from different places of Delhi, like Nand Nagri Terminal, Nangloi JJ Colony and Rithala. Those using DTC buses for travelling from Delhi or NCR can commute via designated bus routes on Mathura Road and Bhairon Marg.

The fair will have over 6,000 exhibitors and around 1.5 million visitors from India and abroad are expected to visit the event.


CHHAT CONGESTION


Chhat Puja which will be celebrated in the National Capital Territory on 19 November from 4 pm to 20 November 7 am. A large number of devotees are expected to assemble on both sides of the Yamuna river and to worship the sunset and sunrise. The main congregation points will be all along Yamuna river and some parts of the city.

Heavy traffic congestion is expected. The normal flow of traffic will be affected from the afternoon of 19 November till the morning of 20 November 2012.

‘The devotees will congregate at the various sites using tempos, cycle rickshaws, cycles, trucks and buses from 4 pm on Monday and disperse from these places the next day. Keeping the gathering in mind, elaborate traffic arrangements have been made,’ said a Delhi Traffic official.

‘Commuters are advised to avoid the roads adjoining to Chhat Puja sites. The public transport, specially Delhi Metro, will be the best mode to avoid traffic snarls’, said Satyendra Garg, Joint Commissioner of Police (traffic).

‘Restrictions on movement of commercial vehicles will be imposed on major interstate road passages. Adequate traffic arrangements have been planned to ensure proper movement of devotees and maintaining the general flow of traffic normal as far as possible,’ he added.
