The accused has been identified as Sandeep Sharma, who has been working as a male nurse at the hospital for the past one year. Sandeep Sharma (26) is a native of Bulandshahar in Uttar Pradesh.
The police is examining the recordings to find out if there are any clippings in it.
The hospital management did not clarify whether any antecedent check was carried out before keeping the accused on the staff.
According to the police, the incident came to light when one of the staff members who work in the morning shift at the hospital found a camera in the changing room for the nurses. The matter was then immediately brought to the notice of the hospital management who then checked on the staff members who were working in the evening shift.
When the hospital authorities questioned staff members who were working during the evening shift, one of the contractual employees Sandeep Sharma admitted to installing the spy camera in the changing room.
“We were informed by the authorities of the Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Center that a man has installed a spy camera in the nurses’ changing room. Based on this information, we arrested Sandeep Sharma under section 354C (watching or capturing an image of a woman engaging in a private act in circumstances where she would usually have the explanation of not being observed either by the perpetrator or by any other person at the behest of the perpetrator) of the IPC.” said Vikramjit Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer).
“We have taken the spy camera and are analysing it but the recordings are blurred. We will send it to the forensic team at the cyber cell to know if any obscene content is recorded in the camera.” the official said.
