Update: 2014-12-13 22:55 GMT
The official said work is on at the Rs 43 crore project and is in the final stage waiting for its formal launch on January 26, 2015.

A total of 96 cameras will be installed on both sides of 24-kilometre-stretch out of which 48 will be Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) while the other half will comprise of fixed cameras each at a distance of one kilometre on the entire carriageway. Apart from this, 24 Video Incidence Recording System  (VIRS) and 24 Automatic Number Plate Recognition  (ANPR) cameras will also be installed at every two-kilometre distance to help record incidents and keep a tab on the number plates of vehicles automatically.

A senior official of the authority said the proposed system will improve surveillance, that will help in minimising traffic violations like over-speeding, reverse-driving, over-loading. It will also reduce travel time, operational cost and incident reaction time besides improving traffic.

“With the consistent rise in number of traffic violations and accident cases due to increasing vehicular volume, the need of the hour is to implement hi-tech system of traffic management rather than going for the manual one,” said Sandeep Chandra, in-charge of Noida Traffic Cell. The ITS will help in detecting traffic congestions and inform commuters accordingly. It will be able to inform users about road closures and re-routing.

It would comprise metrological data system, an emergency call box, CCTVs, moving cameras, VIRS, ANPR cameras and variable message signboards. The whole system will be monitored from a control room that will be set up in Sector 14A shortly, he added.
