Hearing on Varun’s hate speech case deferred till 5 March

The Pilibhit court has fixed 5 March as the next date of hearing in a case of a hate speech against BJP secretary and MP Varun Gandhi.

On Wednesday last the same court had acquitted  Varun Gandhi from all charges in an another case of hate speech in Dalchand Mohalla area during the campaigning for his constituency in 2009 general election.

Chief judicial magistrate Abdul Qayum fixed 5 March as the next date of hearing in Barkhera hate speech case.

During the hearing, Md Asad Hayat, general secretary of Awami Council for Democracy and Peace, Allahabad, sought time from the court to appeal in the Allahabad High Court against rejection of his application against Varun on 27 February 27.

Asad had demanded forensic voice test of the BJP leader on his hate speech. By extending the hearing till 5 March, the court automatically gave time to Asad to approach before the high court.

Varun Gandhi had strongly denied the charges against him and termed the case as an attempt to malign his image during the Lok Sabha elections.

According to prosecution, during the campaigning for 2009 Lok Sabha elections, Varun Gandhi had allegedly given provocative speeches at a meeting at Dalchand Mohalla and at Barkhera areas in the district.
