To curb piracy, the Delhi High Court on Friday restrained some cable operators from duplicating and showing the upcoming Bollywood movie Chakravyuh without proper licence from the producer of film, Eros International.
Justice Hima Kohli noted that ‘irreparable loss and injury’ would be caused to the production house if cable operators, allegedly in the business of duplicating, selling and making available tapes, CDs, DVDs, are not restrained.
‘The defendants [cable operators] herein and other undisclosed persons are restrained from communicating, making available, distributing, duplicating, releasing, showing, exhibiting on camcording in any manner, the film Chakravyuh without obtaining prior authorisation/license from the plaintiff in that regard,’ Justice Kohli said while passing the order.
Directed and produced by filmmaker Prakash Jha, Chakravyuh is scheduled for release on 24 October.
Eros International Media, co-producer of the film, moved the court against cable operators, a multiplex in Ghaziabad and a free data sharing site saying that the ‘plaintiff [Eros] is the co-producer of the film Chakravyuh and has exclusive rights to exploit this film.’
Eros also said that on 7 March it entered into an agreement with Prakhash Jha where he assigned the rights to Eros. Two days ago the court allowed the release of the song Mehengai from the film.
