The Delhi High Court on Wednesday refused to stay the telecast of Saif Ali Khan-starrer Bollywood film Race 2 on Sunday by a leading entertainment channel on a PIL against alleged exhibition of nudity and vulgarity in the movie.
A bench of chief justice D Murugesan and justice Jayant Nath dismissed an application filed by a social worker Teena Sharma who sought an order to stay the telecast of the movie on 12 May at 1pm on Zee TV.
The court said in its order that the movie has already been released in theatres a few months earlier and ‘at this stage, stay does not arise.’ Sharma in her plea sought an immediate ban on further screening of the film in movie halls and its telecast on television channels as well besides deletion of ‘nude’ scenes and ‘vulgar’ dialogues before granting the permission to screen it again.
She said the Censor Board and film makers had assured the court that they will not further exhibit the movie on TV channels but they have ‘disregarded’ their own assurance and allowed Zee TV to telecast the film on Sunday.
‘In total regard of the assurance made to this court, the party is now giving advertisement for exhibition of the movie on Zee TV...,’ the plea said.
