The Lucknow bench of Allahabad high court on Tuesday detained one of the most powerful bureaucrat in the state, principal secretary (Home) R M Srivastava, and sent additional commissioner (Administration), Faizabad, Shailendra Kumar Singh to jail in two separate contempt of the court cases.
In the first case, Justice Satish Chandra detained principal secretary (Home) R M Srivastava for contempt of court in not providing ‘Y’ category security to BSP leader and former power minister in Mayawati’s cabinet, Ramveer Upadhaya.
The court had ordered the state government to provide ‘Y’ Category security to the BSP leader. However, the government provided paid security to the leader, which irked the court.
In another contempt case, Justice Ajay Lamba sent additional commissioner (Administration) of Faizabad to jail for three days for not following the court’s orders.
According to the petitioner’s counsel Fakir Ali, high court had ordered the Tehsildar of Akbarpur in Ambedkarnagar on 23 April, 2012 to dispose of the case number 838 within six months time. The Tehsildar issued the order on 6 July, 2012 to the parties for the hearing.
But some people moved an application in the court of additional commissioner (Administration) against the Tehsildar’s order and the Commissioner stayed the hearing.
Later, the Additional Commissioner pleaded before the HC that he was not aware about the ruling but the court did not accept his plea and sent him to jail for contempt of court.
