Karnataka government will have no objection to shift AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa to Tamil Nadu from a jail here if the neighbouring state makes a request through courts, Home minister KJ George said on Monday. ‘If there is a proposal coming before the court from the Tamil Nadu government, we have no objection to shifting (Jayalalithaa),’ George said here.
Jayalalithaa is in Parappana Agrahara Central Prison jail here since 27 September after the special court sentenced her to four years in prison, besides imposing a Rs 100 crore fine on her, in the Rs 66.65 crore disproportionate assets case against her.
The AIADMK chief’s aide Sasikala, her relatives VN Sudhakaran, disowned son of the former chief minister, and J Elavarasi were also sent to four years in jail in the case, apart from being slapped a fine of Rs 10 crore each. Several leaders, prominently former prime minister and JDS chief HD Deve Gowda, have been pressing for shifting of Jayalalithaa, saying it was a burden on the state government to manage a large number of protesters and maintain law and order.
A large number of Jaya supporters have been camping outside the central jail here since her imprisonment. Asked whether Karn govt had made efforts to get in touch with its Tamil Nadu counterpart on the issue, George said.
