Hand held gadgets to provide parking slips to motorists: South civic body
South Delhi Municipal Corporation is all set to introduce hand-held electronic devices to issue slips to motorists in all its parking lots to eliminate arbitrary collection.
The proposal was cleared by the SDMC Standing Committee and it will now be put before the House next month for approval.
The new system will record the time of entry and exit of every vehicle in the parking lot along with registration number and other such details, the official policy statement says.
‘The records of printed slips shall be maintained by the contractor and SDMC shall have the right to demand or check this record at any time,’ it says.
The provisions also provide for hefty fines for violation of guidelines set in the policy. Major violations include overcharging, non-use of hand held devices, covering more parking space among others.
‘While the first violation will lead to penalty of 25 per cent of the monthly license fee, it will rise by 25 per cent for each successive violation till the fourth violation.
Thereafter, in case there is a fifth instance of violation, the license will be cancelled,’ the policy statement says. Besides the parking policy, the panel was also informed about the government and semi-government departments who are yet to pay up their property tax to the civic body. While DDA owes as much as Rs 478 crore, out of which Rs 120 crore was recovered in December last year through attachment of its bank accounts.

‘The work of recovering the tax amount from these departments is currently on,’ says an official statement from the tax department to the standing committee members.
